Frustrated by a crushing defeat, Mike Elko sparked controversy by labeling a prominent fan site a "cesspool", deepening the divide during the Aggies' disappointing SEC slide.

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko had plenty of questions to answer following the Aggies' disappointing 27-6 loss to Missouri on Saturday. However, his comments about one of the program's most prominent fan websites quickly became another major talking point surrounding a team struggling to meet expectations.

After suffering their third loss in four games, the Aggies are facing increasing frustration from their supporters. Rather than simply addressing the team's struggles, Elko took aim at TexAgs.com, a popular website where Texas A&M fans discuss the football program and voice their opinions.

"There's a difference to me between the fan base and social media," Elko said following the Aggies Saturday afternoon loss to the Tigers. "So there's one group that I really don't care much about. Billy's cesspool can go be Billy's cesspool."

Elko was referring to Billy Liucci, a longtime Texas A&M insider and co-owner of TexAgs.com. The coach attempted to distinguish the broader Aggie fan base from the criticism found on social media and online message boards, but his choice of words immediately generated controversy.

"Our fan base, stay with us, be behind us," Elko continued. "We're going to build something that we told you we were going to build. So we're in a really bad spot right now, but we'll work our way out of it."

Although Elko expressed confidence in his ability to turn things around, the timing of his remarks could make an already difficult situation more complicated. ... in part because he just engaged in an argument he cannot win.

Texas A&M entered the season with significant expectations after reaching the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history last season. The Aggies also began the 2026 campaign ranked among the nation's top teams, creating hopes that Elko's program could take another step forward.

Instead, the team has struggled through the opening portion of its SEC schedule. The loss to Missouri followed defeats against Kentucky, LSU, and Arkansas, leaving Texas A&M searching for answers on both sides of the football.

The offense's continued difficulties have been particularly concerning. Scoring just six points against Missouri highlighted how far the Aggies have fallen short of expectations during their recent slide.

Elko previously emphasized the importance of separating the passionate support of the 12th Man from negativity on social media. His latest comments, however, risk shifting attention away from the field and toward an unnecessary disagreement with a prominent voice in Aggieland.

Texas A&M still has opportunities to salvage its season, but the pressure on Elko is growing. Moving forward, the most effective way to quiet the criticism will be through improved performances, beginning with the Aggies' next opportunity to respond on the field.
