Texas A&M star PJ Haggerty earns another preseason All-SEC honor after averaging 23.4 points last season, raising expectations for the Aggies' new-look offense.

Texas A&M basketball hasn't played a regular-season game yet, but PJ Haggerty is already giving Aggies fans plenty of reasons to get excited about what's coming.

The high-scoring transfer guard earned a spot on the Coaches' Preseason All-SEC Third Team on Thursday, adding another honor to an impressive collection of preseason recognition ahead of the 2026-27 college basketball season.

And judging by his production over the past two seasons, the conference might be underestimating just how dangerous Haggerty can be.

The 6-4, 195-pound guard was also named to the media's Preseason All-SEC Third Team earlier this month and landed on the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award's 20-player preseason watch list.

Those honors come after Haggerty established himself as one of college basketball's most explosive offensive players.

During his lone season at Kansas State, Haggerty averaged 23.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists while starting all 31 games he played. His scoring average ranked fourth nationally and second in the Big 12.

He also shot 48.9 percent from the floor, scored 725 total points and recorded five performances of at least 30 points, including a season-high 37 against Mississippi State.

But Haggerty isn't simply a volume scorer.

His ability to create shots, attack defenses and distribute the basketball could make him the centerpiece of head coach Bucky McMillan's offense.

Aggies fans already received a preview of that potential.

Haggerty poured in 28 points while adding four assists and four steals during Texas A&M's 94-88 exhibition loss at SMU on Sunday.

The performance wasn't enough to secure a victory, but it demonstrated why the Aggies were eager to bring him to College Station.

Haggerty's resume was already impressive before arriving at Kansas State.

At Memphis in 2024-25, he averaged 21.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals while shooting 47.6 percent.

He helped the Tigers capture American Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships, earning AAC Player of the Year honors and second-team All-America recognition from the Associated Press, USBWA and Sporting News.

Now he's attempting to translate that individual success into a deep postseason run with Texas A&M.

McMillan enters his second season after guiding the Aggies to a 22-12 record and another NCAA Tournament appearance last year.

Texas A&M opens its regular season Tuesday, November 3, against Alabama State at Reed Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT, with coverage on SEC Network+.

The Aggies have plenty of new faces and questions surrounding their chemistry.

But with Haggerty leading the attack, scoring shouldn't be their biggest concern.

The bigger question is whether he can turn his individual brilliance into the kind of team success that carries Texas A&M into March.

And if his preseason recognition is any indication, the SEC already knows he's someone to watch.
