Kyle Field is home to one of the nation's best football atmospheres. However, it will soon be home to another kind of football and one of its biggest stars.
There's another football game on the schedule in College Station this season. No, the Aggies aren't adding a game and there isn't some kind of one-off exhibition game.
Instead a different kind of football, the one actually played with feet and known across the globe, is making a stop in the heart of Texas.
Texas A&M announced that its Kyle Field will host its second-ever international soccer match, with a clash between the Argentina and Honduras national teams ahead of the 2026 World Cup on Saturday, June 6 at 7 p.m.
For those unfamiliar with the exact details of the sport, Argentina is home to one of the biggest figures in its history, Lionel Messi. That name is sure to a ring a bell to even the most casual of followers.
Messi has been touted as the greatest player of all-time by some around the sport. He holds several of soccer's individual records that he earned during his time as a member of FC Barcelona.
Outside of his professional career, Messi starred in his national career with Argentina, including scoring the most goals in country history at 116. The pinnacle of this success came in 2022 when he led the country to the World Cup title over France.
While its not the first time Messi has suited up in the States, as he is currently rostered to the MLS' Inter Miami club, it is an opportunity for fans outside of South Beach to catch a glimpse of the legendary player.
Add on to that the fact it is a match where Messi is repping his country and the intrigue is even higher.
Argentina enters the "Road to 26" matchup ranked No. 3 in the FIFA Men's World Rankings, behind France and Spain. Meanwhile, Honduras is on the opposite side of the spectrum and looking for a huge win to potentially boost its way toward its first World Cup berth since 2014.
Mike Elko's Aggies are sure to put on a show under the lights this season in College Station every time they step onto Kyle Field. But for those looking for a little change of pace ahead of the season, a primetime showdown with one of soccer's all-time greats promises to be a great experience.
Tickets for the game are available to the general public now.
