Sawyer Farr stepped into a bigger role for Texas A&M baseball, helping stabilize the Aggies’ infield during a stretch hit hard by injuries.

Texas A&M baseball needed someone to steady the infield Friday night against Ole Miss, and Sawyer Farr gave Michael Earley exactly that.

With injuries continuing to force lineup changes, the sophomore infielder stepped into a larger role at second base and made the most of it for the Aggies.

Farr, a Fort Worth native, didn’t just fill a spot. He helped Texas A&M limit damage defensively by turning two double plays, both coming at important moments as Ole Miss tried to stretch its lead.

For an Aggies team dealing with injuries to Nico Partida, Boston Kellner and Chris Hacopian, that kind of clean defense matters.

The opportunity is meaningful for Farr, who entered Texas A&M as one of the more highly regarded infield prospects in his class.

Perfect Game ranked him as the No. 3 shortstop in the 2025 class, and he showed flashes as a freshman with 31 starts in 39 appearances. He drove in four runs, drew 17 walks and went a perfect 5-for-5 on stolen-base attempts.

His role has looked different this season after Hacopian transferred in from Maryland and took on a major spot in the Aggies’ lineup.

Farr has started just nine games in 2026, including Friday’s second SEC start, but he’s remained ready. He entered the Ole Miss opener hitting .258 with eight hits and seven RBIs.

The bat is still a work in progress, but Farr found a way to contribute to one of Texas A&M’s three runs in the series opener. Defensively, he’s been even more reliable, carrying a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage through 15 appearances.

That’s the kind of depth Texas A&M needs right now. Farr may not have opened the season as an everyday starter, but he’s proving he can help hold things together when the Aggies need it most.
