Texas A&M added Burleson linebacker Aston Whiteside, giving Mike Elko another defensive piece in the nation’s No. 1 2027 class.

Texas A&M football already owned the nation’s top 2027 recruiting class.

Mike Elko just made it deeper, meaner and even more defense-heavy.

The Aggies landed a commitment from three-star linebacker Aston Whiteside on Monday, beating out Kentucky and Miami for the Burleson, Texas, standout.

Whiteside officially visited College Station over the weekend and didn’t wait around for the rest of his June schedule.

Once Texas A&M got him on campus, the decision was made.

That’s another strong recruiting win for Elko, who continues to build a monster class with a heavy defensive edge.

Whiteside is ranked as the No. 491 overall prospect, No. 41 linebacker and No. 66 player in Texas in the Rivals industry ranking.

He becomes Texas A&M’s first linebacker commitment in the 2027 cycle and gives the Aggies another in-state defender with real production.

His junior season at Lovejoy High School was limited to nine games, but he still posted 46 tackles and eight pass breakups.

That coverage production matters. Modern linebackers can’t just hit anymore.

They have to run, read, cover and stay on the field against spread offenses.

Whiteside showed his bigger upside as a sophomore, piling up 104 tackles, two interceptions, five pass breakups and two fumble recoveries across 14 games.

That’s the kind of stat line that screams active, instinctive and comfortable around the ball.

Texas A&M now has 16 commitments in the 2027 class, including nine on defense.

The group already features five five-star prospects, which is why the Aggies aren’t just having a good recruiting cycle. They’re chasing something historic.

Whiteside may not be the flashiest name in the class, but he fills a real need and fits the identity Elko wants.

Texas A&M is stacking defenders again, and the rest of the SEC should probably notice.
