After a devastating loss to Kentucky, the Aggies lose versatile weapon Terry Bussey to a season-ending leg injury, leaving Mike Elko’s squad reeling ahead of SEC play.
Texas A&M’s awful weekend just got worse.
The pain from Saturday against Kentucky didn’t end with a 31-21 loss at Kyle Field.
The Aggies have lost Terry Bussey for the rest of the season.
Texas A&M coach Mike Elko delivered a troubling Terry Bussey injury update following the Aggies’ SEC-opening loss, making it clear the program is losing one of its most versatile offensive weapons.
Bussey is out for the year.
Bussey was injured on the opening kickoff against Kentucky when his right leg gave way as he attempted to make a cut. The play didn’t involve the type of violent collision normally associated with a serious football injury. Bussey went down, grabbed his leg and was unable to put weight on it.
He eventually left the field on a cart.
Bussey later returned to the Texas A&M sideline in street clothes and was seen walking, but he never returned to the game with what we know to be a lower-body injury.
This is a significant blow.
The junior entered 2026 with 1,251 career all-purpose yards, including 411 receiving yards, 103 rushing yards and 638 yards on kickoff returns.
Bussey was also a preseason third-team All-SEC selection as a kickoff specialist after averaging 23.4 yards per return in 2025.
Texas A&M received better news regarding Mario Craver.
Craver left Saturday’s game during the first quarter after a Kentucky defender rolled into his ankle following an eight-yard reception.
He required assistance leaving the field, briefly giving the Aggies another major injury concern.
Craver, however, returned on Texas A&M’s first offensive possession of the second quarter and continued playing.
That matters considering Craver entered this season as A&M’s most proven receiver. He caught 59 passes for 917 yards and four touchdowns in 2025, finishing sixth in the SEC in receiving yards and earning second-team All-America recognition from the Football Writers Association of America.
So the Aggies appear to have avoided one receiver disaster. ... but they are getting hit hard with the bad Bussey news.
