Texas A&M baseball answered the bell Saturday night.
After dropping the opener of its SEC series against Oklahoma, the Aggies stormed back with a 9-5 victory over the Sooners in Norman, fueled by power hitting and a steady outing from starting pitcher Weston Moss.
The win evened the series and set up a winner-take-all Game 3 on Sunday.
The Aggies’ bats wasted little time making noise. Second baseman Chris Hacopian jump-started the offense with a two-run home run in the third inning, tying the game after Oklahoma had jumped out to an early 2-0 lead.
The blast continued a hot stretch for Hacopian, who has been one of Texas A&M’s most reliable hitters since returning to the lineup.
The Aggies didn’t stop there. Designated hitter Wesley Jordan delivered the biggest swing of the night, crushing a three-run homer in the fifth inning to push Texas A&M ahead and swing momentum firmly in the Aggies’ direction.
Jordan and Hacopian combined for three hits, two home runs and five RBI, powering an offense that produced nine runs on nine hits.
Texas A&M added more insurance late as a sacrifice fly from Gavin Grahovac and a two-run blast from Caden Sorrell in the eighth inning stretched the Aggies’ lead to four runs, putting the game out of reach despite Oklahoma’s attempts to chip away.
On the mound, Weston Moss delivered a solid performance for Texas A&M. The junior right-hander from Spring, Texas, worked six innings while striking out six batters, allowing five hits and five runs.
While it wasn’t his cleanest outing of the season, Moss kept the Aggies in control long enough for the offense to take over.
But Oklahoma had its moments, too.
The Sooners struck first with a two-run home run from Brendan Brock in the opening inning and later pulled within two runs after Alec Blair launched a two-run shot in the sixth.
But every time Oklahoma threatened, Texas A&M answered with another key hit.
Despite leaving eight runners stranded, the Aggies’ power display proved too much for the Sooners to overcome.
Now the series comes down to one final showdown.
Texas A&M will send Aiden Sims to the mound Sunday afternoon. Sims enters the rubber match with an impressive 1.59 ERA and 25 strikeouts this season. Oklahoma counters with left-hander Cord Rager, who carries a 3.50 ERA and 22 strikeouts into the decisive matchup.
With the series tied and momentum swinging, Sunday’s finale promises fireworks in Norman.
