Texas A&M enters spring practice with Marcel Reed back, new coordinators in place, and College Football Playoff hopes tied to rapid growth up front.

Texas A&M football is already generating major buzz for the 2026 season, and spring practice has only added to the intrigue.

The Aggies opened camp with plenty of attention on quarterback Marcel Reed, a retooled coaching staff, and an offensive line that could decide whether A&M returns to the College Football Playoff.

That’s why Texas A&M football 2026 feels so fascinating right now.

Mike Elko has quickly built a program that develops NFL talent and wins big games, and last season backed that up.

The Aggies reached the CFP for the first time in school history, while 13 players earned invites to the NFL Scouting Combine.

Now, Elko is trying to keep the momentum rolling after major staff turnover. Former offensive coordinator Collin Klein left for the Kansas State head coaching job, and defensive coordinator Jay Bateman moved on as well.

In response, Elko promoted Holmon Wiggins to offensive coordinator and handed defensive play-calling duties to Lyle Hemphill, while continuing to put his own stamp on the defense.

The biggest reason for optimism is Reed. The dual-threat quarterback returns for his third year in the program and second as the full-time starter after throwing for 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 2025.

If he sharpens his pocket presence and decision-making, he could become one of the SEC’s most dangerous quarterbacks.

Still, the Aggies’ ceiling may come down to the line of scrimmage. Texas A&M lost four offensive line starters, making its transfer portal additions crucial.

On defense, Northwestern edge Anto Saka and former Colorado safety Tawfiq Byard are expected to help immediately.

The schedule won’t be forgiving, with road trips to LSU, Missouri, Alabama, South Carolina and Oklahoma.

Even so, if Reed takes the expected leap and the new staff settles in quickly, another 10-win season is absolutely on the table.
