Texas A&M football enters spring practice with new jersey numbers, elite transfers and five-star freshmen as Mike Elko builds on last season’s historic playoff run.

Texas A&M football is back in the spotlight as spring practice approaches, and the Aggies are entering the 2026 offseason with momentum, intrigue and a roster that looks noticeably different right down to the jersey numbers.

After leading Texas A&M to an 11-0 start and the program’s first College Football Playoff appearance in school history last season, head coach Mike Elko now faces the challenge of keeping that momentum rolling.

The Aggies have reloaded aggressively through recruiting and the transfer portal, and several key players will debut new numbers when spring practice begins March 20 in College Station.

The number changes may seem cosmetic, but they often signal evolving roles inside the program.

Defensively, linebacker Noah Mikhail switching to No. 0 stands out immediately.

The junior is expected to anchor the Aggies’ linebacker room in 2026 after emerging as a versatile defensive presence last season. Safety Dalton Brooks also grabbed attention with his move to No. 7, while fellow defensive back Myles Davis will wear No. 13 as the Aggies continue reshaping their secondary.

Another intriguing change comes from edge rusher Sam M’Pemba, who moves from No. 92 to No. 15. The former five-star recruit has the physical tools to become a disruptive pass rusher, and Texas A&M’s defensive staff hopes a breakout year is coming.

On offense, dynamic playmaker Terry Bussey is switching from No. 2 to No. 6, while running backs Jamarion Morrow and Tiger Riden Jr. will wear Nos. 2 and 5, respectively.

Tight end Kiotti Armstrong will now wear No. 9 as the Aggies continue expanding their offensive versatility.

The biggest excitement, however, might come from the newcomers.

Texas A&M signed the No. 4 transfer portal class and the No. 7 high school recruiting class in the 2026 cycle, and several new faces could impact the roster immediately.

Colorado safety Tawfiq Boyd arrives wearing No. 4 and is expected to compete for early snaps in the Aggies’ secondary.

Alabama transfer wide receiver Isaiah Horton, now wearing No. 7, gives the Aggies another big-play target on the outside, while LSU offensive lineman Tyree Adams - sporting No. 71 - strengthens the trenches.

Freshman talent could also shake up the depth chart quickly. Running back KJ Edwards, one of the most explosive prospects in the class, will wear No. 0.

Defensive back Brandon Arrington and defensive lineman Bryce Perry-Wright are two other highly touted newcomers to watch during spring practices.

Texas A&M will hold 15 total spring sessions before wrapping up with the annual Maroon and White spring game on April 18, an event open to fans eager to see the next evolution of Aggies football.

If Elko’s roster overhaul delivers the way many expect, the Aggies could once again find themselves squarely in the national title conversation.
