Texas A&M hosts The Citadel Saturday with Mario Craver's health uncertain, several starters sidelined and Mike Elko desperate to revive the Aggies' struggling offense.

Texas A&M football returns to Kyle Field Saturday looking for more than another victory.

The Aggies need something resembling an offensive breakthrough against The Citadel, and Mike Elko's struggling team will attempt that turnaround while dealing with several significant injuries.

Texas A&M enters the noon matchup at 3-3 overall and 1-3 in SEC play following an ugly 27-6 loss at Missouri. The Citadel arrives at 2-4, including an 0-3 record in Southern Conference competition.

The Aggies' most pressing injury question involves wide receiver Mario Craver, who's been battling multiple ailments, including an ankle injury suffered against LSU.

Craver played against Arkansas and Missouri despite those problems, but his production has suffered dramatically. After recording 22 receptions for 225 yards in September, he's managed just two catches for 16 yards in October.

And Texas A&M can hardly afford another missing offensive weapon.

Explosive receiver Terry Bussey has already been ruled out for the season, while offensive lineman Blake Ivy is also sidelined for the remainder of 2026. Receiver M. Williams and running back T. Riden Jr. are likewise listed among the team's season-ending absences.

Because Saturday's contest is outside SEC competition, there isn't a mandatory conference availability report, leaving Craver's final status uncertain.

The Citadel has no players listed on the publicly available injury report, although that doesn't guarantee the Bulldogs will enter Saturday completely healthy.

For Elko, personnel concerns are only part of a much bigger problem.

Quarterback Marcel Reed has completed just 55.3 percent of his passes this season, throwing six touchdowns and six interceptions. The Aggies rank 14th in the SEC in total offense, and their passing attack has become painfully predictable.

Elko has resisted calls for sweeping personnel changes, maintaining his commitment to Reed while attempting to improve execution through adjustments in practice.

The Citadel could provide the perfect opportunity to rebuild confidence.

But the Bulldogs shouldn't be dismissed entirely.

Quarterback Quentin Hayes has thrown for 302 yards and rushed for another 292, giving head coach Maurice Drayton a mobile threat capable of extending drives. Nick Billoups has also seen action, creating another consideration for Texas A&M's defense.

The Bulldogs demonstrated their upset potential earlier this month with a 34-31 victory over ranked South Carolina State.

Still, the talent disparity at Kyle Field should favor the Aggies considerably.

Texas A&M must establish its running game, protect Reed and generate the kind of consistent offensive production that's disappeared against SEC competition.

And if the Aggies build a comfortable lead, getting backup quarterback Brady Hart meaningful playing time would provide a valuable opportunity to evaluate the position.

Anything less than a convincing victory would only intensify the scrutiny surrounding Elko's third season.
