Texas A&M is chasing five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, who could give Mike Elko’s loaded 2027 Aggies class a sixth five-star commitment.
Texas A&M football is already building a monster 2027 recruiting class, but Mike Elko clearly isn’t interested in stopping at “really good.”
The Aggies are now waiting on five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, one of the biggest uncommitted defensive prizes in the country, and his July 1 decision could turn an elite class into something outrageous.
Dobson, a standout from Cornelius, North Carolina, is down to Texas A&M, Auburn, Michigan and South Carolina. That’s a heavyweight final four, but the Aggies have been in this fight for a long time.
Texas A&M offered Dobson back in September 2024, and nearly two years of recruiting could pay off in a massive way.
The numbers explain why everyone wants him. Dobson is ranked as the No. 11 overall player and No. 3 cornerback in the Rivals industry ranking.
He’s also the highest-rated uncommitted defensive player on the board, which makes his decision one of the most important recruiting moments left in the 2027 cycle.
The Aggies already have five five-star prospects committed in the 2027 class.
If Dobson picks Texas A&M, Elko’s group would jump to six five-stars, with elite talent spread across premium positions ... offensive tackle, safety, edge rusher, interior offensive line, linebacker and cornerback.
Miami currently sits behind Texas A&M with three five-star commits, which shows just how far the Aggies have separated themselves near the top of the recruiting world.
Landing Dobson would only make that gap feel wider.
The defensive back haul is already nasty. Five-star safety Kamarui Dorsey headlines the group, while four-star safety JayQuan Snell, four-star cornerback Raylaun Henry, three-star cornerback Hakim Frampton and three-star athletes Loia Valade and Errol Kerns give Texas A&M serious depth and versatility in the secondary.
Add Dobson to that mix, and the Aggies may have the best defensive back class in the nation. No debate needed.
Auburn, Michigan and South Carolina all have real selling points. But Texas A&M has momentum, volume and a class that already looks like it’s trying to bully the rest of college football before these players even arrive on campus.
Dobson’s July 1 commitment won’t just be another hat-on-the-table moment. For Texas A&M, it could be the move that turns a great class into a historic one.
