Texas A&M Pushes for 2027 5-Star OT cover image

Texas A&M is making a strong move for 2027 five-star tackle Mark Matthews as Mike Elko and Adam Cushing battle Miami, LSU and Georgia.

Texas A&M recruiting is picking up even more momentum heading into the Maroon & White Game, and one of the biggest names on the Aggies’ radar is now back in College Station.

Five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews, one of the premier prospects in the 2027 class, visited Texas A&M this week as Mike Elko and offensive line coach Adam Cushing continue their push to land one of the nation’s top blockers.

That’s a major development for the Aggies, who already have the No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class and are still swinging big.

Matthews is one of the most coveted offensive line recruits in the country, and Texas A&M is trying to close ground in a battle that also includes Miami, LSU, and Georgia.

With four-star receiver Jaden Upshaw already in the fold, the Aggies are now zeroing in on remaining priority targets who could turn this class into something truly special.

Matthews has the kind of profile that gets every major program’s attention. The Florida standout is listed at 6-foot-6 and more than 300 pounds, with the mobility and athletic background that make him a high-end projection at left tackle.

His basketball experience shows up in his footwork and movement skills, and those traits are a big reason he’s viewed as a potential future first-round NFL Draft talent.

According to Rivals, Matthews is the No. 3 overall player in the country, the top offensive tackle in the class, and the No. 1 prospect in Florida.

That kind of ranking explains why this recruitment has become such a high-stakes showdown.

The visit also gave Texas A&M a chance to make its strongest in-person case yet.

As one report put it, “The five-star Matthews will get the full experience of a day in a life of a Texas A&M football player. He has also started building relationships with members of the 2027 class that already ranks No. 1 nationally including quarterback Jayce Johnson. In the past he has talked highly of the program trajectory and coaching staff.”

With Elko, Cushing, and the Aggies building real momentum, Texas A&M appears firmly in the fight for one of the biggest offensive line commitments in the 2027 cycle.
