Marcel Reed gives Texas A&M proven firepower, but Brady Hart’s rise could make the Aggies’ quarterback room stronger than expected in 2026.

Texas A&M football enters the 2026 season with something plenty of SEC programs would love to have ... a known answer at quarterback.

Marcel Reed is back for his third straight season leading the Aggies’ offense, and that matters.

He’s coming off a career-best year with 3,169 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while starting all 13 games.

He also showed the kind of toughness Mike Elko wants as the face of the program, especially after taking punishment against Texas and still returning to the huddle.

But here’s the edge to this conversation ... Texas A&M’s quarterback room isn’t just about Reed anymore.

The final two games last season still linger. Reed committed four turnovers in losses to Texas and Miami in the College Football Playoff, and in the SEC, those mistakes get remembered.

That’s why the development behind him is such a big deal.

Miles O’Neill transferring to North Carolina cleared the path for Brady Hart to become the Aggies’ No. 2 quarterback. Hart, a former four-star prospect and Michigan flip, looked noticeably sharper this spring.

During the Maroon & White Game, he showed timing, poise and confidence, including several strong connections with Alabama transfer Isaiah Horton and a pressure throw down the seam to Ashton Bethel-Roman.

That doesn’t mean there’s a quarterback controversy. Reed is the guy. But it does mean Texas A&M has a backup who appears to be more than just a name on the depth chart.

With Holmon Wiggins now running the offense, Joey Lynch coaching the quarterbacks and Lyle Hemphill taking over the defense, Elko has reshaped the staff around a roster built to stay in the SEC fight.

Athlon ranking Texas A&M’s quarterback room No. 7 in the SEC feels fair, maybe even a little cautious. Reed gives the Aggies proven production. Hart gives them insurance. In 2026, that combination could matter fast.
