Texas A&M football doesn’t need a mystery to solve at quarterback.
It needs Marcel Reed to be the version of himself that can drag the Aggies back into the College Football Playoff while everything around him changes.
That’s the fascinating part of Mike Elko’s 2026 team. The ceiling still feels real, but the margin for error got a lot tighter after Texas A&M sent 10 players to the NFL Draft.
Reed is no longer a projection.
After throwing for 3,169 yards with 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions last season, plus adding nearly 500 rushing yards and six scores on the ground, the redshirt junior has already shown he can stress a defense in multiple ways.
The next step is cleaner, sharper, more ruthless football - especially with four new starters stepping in across the offensive line.
That’s where Mario Craver becomes such a massive piece of the 2026 Texas A&M offense.
With KC Concepcion now in Cleveland after going No. 24 overall to the Browns, Craver moves from dangerous weapon to headline act.
Craver caught 59 passes for 917 yards and four touchdowns last season, averaging 15.5 yards per reception.
Those numbers don’t scream gimmick player. They scream Sunday skill set.
He’s fast enough to take the roof off coverage, polished enough to separate underneath, and versatile enough to be moved around until a defense gives Texas A&M the matchup it wants.
That’s why On3’s J.D. PicKell ranking Reed and Craver as the No. 6 quarterback-wide receiver duo in college football makes plenty of sense. It’s not just hype. It’s production, chemistry and upside all meeting at the same intersection.
The Aggies also didn’t sit still in the transfer portal. Seventeen additions arrived this offseason, and former Alabama receiver Isaiah Horton gives Reed a big-bodied target who can help balance the room.
At 6-4, Horton brings a different kind of problem for SEC defenses, which should keep opponents from tilting everything toward Craver.
Still, this season comes back to Reed and Craver. If the offensive line grows up quickly, Texas A&M has enough firepower to be a College Football Playoff threat again.
If it doesn’t, the Aggies may need their star duo to win games the hard way.
Luckily for Elko, Reed and Craver look dangerous enough to do exactly that.
