Despite losing a key battle to Texas, Mike Elko’s top-ranked 2027 class remains a defensive powerhouse fueled by five-star standout Raylaun Henry and a looming decision from Joshua Dobson.

Texas A&M recruiting took a hit when five-star cornerback John Meredith III picked Texas, but let’s not pretend the Aggies’ 2027 class is suddenly wobbling.

Mike Elko’s program still owns the No. 1 class in the cycle, still has 24 commitments, and still has a defensive backfield blueprint that looks dangerous.

The next name to watch is Joshua Dobson.

Dobson, another five-star cornerback, is expected to announce his commitment on July 1, and Texas A&M remains firmly in the mix. If the Aggies land him, the Meredith miss becomes less of a disaster and more of a rivalry recruiting bruise.

Texas got its headline. Texas A&M may still end up with the deeper secondary haul. That’s where Raylaun Henry enters the conversation.

Henry has become one of the biggest risers in the 2027 recruiting cycle after earning five-star status from ESPN.

The St. Frances Academy standout is now ranked No. 19 nationally by ESPN, and that jump isn’t just recruiting-site noise. At 6-1 and 180 pounds, Henry brings the size, length and speed college coaches crave at cornerback.

He’s also been clocked consistently in the 4.4 range in the 40-yard dash, which means he isn’t just big. He can run.

That combination is why Texas A&M fans should be fired up. Henry profiles as more than a boundary corner.

He has the physical traits to press receivers, the athleticism to stay attached downfield and the feel to survive in zone coverage. He’s not a finished product yet, but the ceiling is easy to see.

And the Aggies aren’t building this secondary around one player.

Kamarui Dorsey and JayQuan Snell give Texas A&M blue-chip safety talent. Henry gives the class a five-star corner already in the boat. Dobson could make it a potential monster haul.

Add in Brandon Arrington, a former five-star talent from the 2026 class, and the future defensive back room starts to look nasty.

That’s the bigger story here. Losing Meredith to Texas stings because rivalry losses always sting. But Texas A&M isn’t scrambling. The Aggies are stacking.

If Henry develops the way his latest ranking suggests, and if Dobson joins the class, Texas A&M could be lining up one of the most athletic young secondaries in college football.

Elko’s defense has always depended on corners who can hold up outside and safeties who can erase mistakes.

This group could give him exactly that.

Texas won a huge battle with Meredith. No question. But Texas A&M still has a chance to win the war in the 2027 defensive back market.
