Texas A&M softball pushed No. 1 Texas to the brink Friday night, but the Aggies dropped a wild 9-8 opener after leading deep into the game.

Texas A&M softball went toe-to-toe with top-ranked Texas on Friday night, but the Aggies came up just short in a dramatic 9-8 loss at McCombs Field.

In a game packed with momentum swings, clutch hits, and late pressure, No. 15 Texas A&M showed it can trade blows with one of the nation’s best teams.

The Aggies jumped out early when Kennedy Powell and Mya Perez set the table at the top of the lineup. Powell finished with three hits, matching a career best, while Perez continued her strong run by helping extend her on-base streak to 36 games.

Texas answered quickly, but A&M kept firing back throughout the night.

Paislie Allen delivered one of the game’s biggest moments with a two-run homer that helped swing the lead back to the Aggies.

Micaela Wark stayed red hot as well, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Her long ball was her 14th of the season and continued a powerful stretch at the plate.

KK Dement also gave the offense a lift with two doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI in one of her best outings of the year.

The Aggies scored six of their eight runs with two outs and piled up double-digit hits for the fourth straight game.

That kind of timely production nearly stole a road win in one of the toughest environments in college softball.

Still, Texas had the final answer. After the Aggies carried the lead into the late innings, the Longhorns pieced together just enough offense to erase the deficit and walk it off in the seventh.

It was a painful finish, but not an empty one. Texas A&M proved it has the bats, toughness, and firepower to make this series a real fight heading into game two.
