Texas A&M spring football is finally here, and the stakes already feel sky-high in College Station. Mike Elko is entering Year 3 with a roster that’s been heavily reworked, a fan base expecting a return to the College Football Playoff, and a 2026 schedule that looks like a weekly fistfight.
If the Aggies are going to survive road games at LSU, Missouri, South Carolina, Alabama, and Oklahoma, health won’t be a luxury. It’ll be the whole story.
That’s why Tuesday’s injury update mattered.
Elko, new offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins, and new defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill gave the first real spring snapshot of where the roster stands, and the news was mostly encouraging.
After a season where injuries punched holes in depth across the board, Texas A&M appears to be getting several important pieces back on the field, even if some of them will be eased in slowly.
The most intriguing name is Jerome Myles.
The former five-star wide receiver is expected to participate this spring in a limited role, which is a big step forward for a player Aggies fans have been waiting to see.
He’s joined by a group of partially available returnees that includes Micah Riley, Papa Ahfua, Jamar Beal-Goines, Dezz Ricks, Dalton Brooks, and Rashad “TomTom” Johnson.
That’s a long list of talent getting at least some work.
The tougher news came with Deyjhon Pettaway and freshman defensive lineman Jermaine Kinsler, who won’t be available this spring because of injuries suffered during the season. That’s a setback, especially for a defense trying to build fresh rotation pieces.
Still, the overall tone around Texas A&M football feels more stable than it did a year ago. With 17 transfer portal additions, 26 incoming freshmen, and what sounds like better offseason health, there’s at least a foundation to work from.
Now comes the hard part. Spring optimism is easy. Surviving an SEC gauntlet is not.
