Texas A&M is gaining ground with 2028 athlete Zion Anderson, a dynamic two-way California standout who could become a major piece for Mike Elko and the Aggies.
Texas A&M recruiting is already reaching deep into the 2028 class, and Mike Elko’s staff appears to be making a serious move for one of California’s most versatile young prospects.
Four-star athlete Zion Anderson, a two-way standout at Long Beach Poly, has emerged as an important name on the Aggies’ expanding board.
According to Rivals insider Adam Gorney, Texas A&M is gaining momentum in Anderson’s recruitment while competing with USC, UCLA, California, Alabama and Nebraska.
That’s significant territory for Elko and his staff.
Anderson is surrounded by West Coast connections. His cousin, Donte Wright, is committed to Miami, while close friend Juju Johnson has pledged to UCLA.
Those relationships could influence his eventual decision, but the Aggies are working to give him a compelling reason to leave California for College Station.
The attraction is easy to understand from Texas A&M’s perspective.
At 6-0 and 160 pounds, Anderson brings the speed and fluid movement needed to play on either side of the ball. During the 2025 season, he caught 19 passes for 381 yards and four touchdowns at wide receiver. Defensively, he recorded 16 tackles, intercepted one pass and broke up five more.
He’s also dangerous as a punt returner, adding another layer to a skill set that already makes him one of the more intriguing athletes in the 2028 cycle.
Rivals currently ranks Anderson as the No. 192 overall prospect nationally, the No. 7 athlete and the No. 10 player in California.
Those rankings could rise considerably as he continues developing physically and taking on a larger role at one of the country’s most recognizable high school programs.
Although Anderson could remain an offensive weapon, his frame, recovery speed and coverage instincts suggest cornerback may be his best long-term position.
Elko has built his reputation on defense, and Texas A&M could offer Anderson a clear developmental path in the secondary without completely closing the door on special-teams opportunities.
The Aggies currently have one commitment in their 2028 class: four-star edge defender Chance Archangel.
They’re also strongly positioned with five-star quarterback Donald Tabron III, running back Ian Thomas and wide receiver Dillon Mitchell.
Texas A&M is still finishing its loaded 2027 class, but Elko isn’t waiting to attack the next cycle. Landing Zion Anderson would give the Aggies another explosive building block and prove their recruiting reach now stretches from Texas all the way to Southern California.
