Texas A&M is pushing hard for five-star linebacker Kaden Henderson after his official visit, with a decision date looming and Mike Elko in the hunt.

Texas A&M football recruiting is staring at a potential statement swing, and five-star linebacker Kaden Henderson is the kind of target who can change the temperature of an entire class.

Mike Elko already has the Aggies rolling in the 2027 cycle, but landing Henderson would send a louder message: Texas A&M isn’t just stacking commitments, it’s chasing premium defensive difference-makers.

Henderson took his official visit to College Station last weekend, and by all accounts, the Aggies gave themselves a real shot before his upcoming official visit to Notre Dame.

The blue-chip linebacker has a July 1 commitment date on the calendar, but that timeline may be more flexible than firm.

“I’m very close to my decision,” Henderson told Rivals. “My commitment date is July 1, but it may not be that day. It could be two weeks, it could be one week.”

Texas A&M has been here before with elite linebacker prospects, and not every battle has gone its way.

The miss that still stings is Anthony Hill, the former five-star who flipped from the Aggies to Texas in the 2023 class during the final stretch of the Jimbo Fisher era.

But Elko’s operation feels different. It’s more targeted, more defensive-minded and more built around relationships than noise.

That matters with Henderson.

The Aggies have already signed four linebackers in the 2026 cycle, so this isn’t a desperation play. It’s a luxury swing with teeth.

Adding Henderson would give new linebackers coach Travis Williams a high-end chess piece for the future rotation and would strengthen a defensive identity Elko clearly wants to build from the middle out.

Henderson also made it clear Texas A&M did what it needed to do on the visit.

“Texas A&M answered all the questions I had for them,” Henderson said. “Knowing how much of a priority I am for this class and the relationships with the staff and committed players, that means a lot.”

That line should get Aggies fans’ attention. Recruits don’t usually talk that way unless a program has pushed the right buttons.

Of course, Notre Dame still gets its shot, and this recruitment isn’t over until Henderson says it is. But Texas A&M is no longer just hanging around the race. The Aggies are in the fight.

If Elko closes this one, it won’t just add another star to the 2027 class. It’ll prove Texas A&M can go toe-to-toe for elite linebackers again.
