Texas A&M just being in the College Football Playoffs is an accomplishment ... no matter what the selection committee did on Sunday in terms of seeding.
After all, if the Aggies are to win quest to win the college football national championship, they'll have to be good enough to take on and defeat all comers.
But that doesn't mean that the committee - which has revealed that the No. 7 seed Aggies (11-1) will be matched against No. 10 seed Miami (10-2) in the first round of the 12-team tournament - got it right.
In fact, TexAgs boss Billy Liucci is a most vocal critic of the process, calling the committee "straight trash.''
Said Liucci via X: "Oregon and Ole Miss over A&M is flat-out disgusting work by the committee. Go look at whatever metric they claim to use you want.
"This committee is straight trash.''
As right as Liucci might be, there is some advantageous news here, however. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. CT - and it's at home at Kyle Field.
Additionally, if the Aggies are able to advance past Miami, their next game will be against No. 2 seed Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Dec. 31 - a "home game'' of sorts.
In the end, controversy is part of the process - and the NCAA probably likes it that way. (Note: coach Mike Elko has criticized the committee’s “word-salad criteria.’’) The committee could've moved the Aggies up to No. 6, but losing to Texas in the regular-season finale likely negated that.
At the same time, A&M’s schedule is rated more difficult than that of No. 6 Ole Miss. But ... If the Aggies reach the semifinals, they’ll play the winner of the first-round match between No. 11 seed Tulane and No. 6 seed Ole Miss or No. 3 seed Georgia.
So there could be an opportunity to prove they're better than Ole Miss, better than Miami, better than Ohio State ... maybe better than all of 'em ... No matter what the "disgusting'' and "trashy'' committee thinks.
