Scrutiny of referees has become more and more prevalent in college football this season. Perhaps it is justified.
Texas fans know firsthand how officiating can turn a game. It happened twice against the Georgia Bulldogs last season.
In the first matchup, officials called a bad pass interference penalty erasing a Texas interception. They later overturned it to the chagrin of Georgia head coach Kirby Smart.
Officiating tipped the scales in Georgia's favor in the SEC title matchup as Texas was flagged for double the penalties and nearly double the penalty yards. And while Texas' Quinn Ewers threw for 358 yards and Georgia's quarterbacks combined for 136 yards, the Longhorns would lose the game.
Will officiating alter the game in either team's favor?
