Longhorns Crush Commodores To Hand No. 10 Vanderbilt First Loss cover image

Sean Miller was fired up after the Longhorns' second straight ranked win.

It's now been twice that Vanderbilt has entered Austin as a top-10 team and gotten stormed out of town by Texas.

First it was Football, then on Thursday night, Men's Basketball joined the party.

Sean Miller's Longhorns completed a 80-64 win over the No. 10 Commodores at the Moody Center for Texas' second ranked win in a row and third on the season.

Matas Vokietaitis led the way with 22 points while Tramon Mark added 21.

Dailyn Swain was everywhere for the Longhorns with 14 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Texas improved to 11-6 overall and 2-2 in SEC play as Vanderbilt dropped to 16-1.

The Longhorns' defense wavered early, but ultimately it put the clamps on the conference's top team to allow a season-low in points scored.

The Commodores were a scorching 8 of 15 from three-point range in the first half, but down on the scoreboard, they couldn't find that same accuracy on the other side of the floor, hitting only one of their 10 threes in the second half.

The loss puts an end to a spectacular unbeaten start to the season for both Vanderbilt programs, as the women's team is also undefeated at 17-0 and ranked No. 5 in the country, one spot below the 18-1 Lady Longhorns.

First-year head coach Miller was amped up in the Longhorns locker room after the victory, fueling his team with the energy that comes as a result of ranked wins over No. 13 Alabama and Vanderbilt over the last few days.

“Show up like you expect to win. This is the University of Texas, we’re not [expletive] around here!" Miller yelled as he awarded the game ball to bouncy guard Chendall Weaver to celebrate the victory.

"Don't give up on us," Mark said postgame. "We're a great team and we're still getting better."

Up next, Texas hosts rival Texas A&M on Saturday in Austin.

If we're remembering the Texas Football's 34-31 win over Vanderbilt from back in November, then it's poignant to note the Longhorns' double-digit win over the Aggies in Austin to close the regular season, as well.

Like was the case on Wednesday, basketball is looking to get in on the party again on Saturday.
