Texas Basketball Faces Georgia in Key SEC Road Showdown Saturday cover image

Texas carries a five-game SEC win streak into Athens as Tramon Mark nears a rare career milestone against Georgia on Saturday afternoon.

Texas men’s basketball heads to Athens this weekend with momentum firmly on its side.

The Longhorns (17-9, 8-5 SEC) will take on Georgia (18-8, 6-7 SEC) Saturday afternoon at Stegeman Coliseum in a matchup that could have significant SEC Tournament implications. Tipoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network.

Sean Miller’s squad has found its rhythm at the right time. Texas enters the contest riding a five-game conference winning streak - its longest run of conference victories since the 2019-20 season. The Longhorns have claimed six of their last seven overall, climbing the league standings as March approaches.

One of the biggest storylines centers around graduate guard Tramon Mark.

The veteran leader is closing in on rare statistical territory, sitting just two assists shy of 300 for his career. Mark already owns 1,854 points, 624 rebounds and 165 steals.

With two more assists, he would become only the second active Division I player to reach 1,800 points, 600 rebounds, 300 assists and 150 steals - elite all-around production that highlights his impact on both ends of the floor.

Inside, sophomore center Matas Vokietaitis continues to elevate his game.

Fresh off a 17-point, 10-rebound performance against LSU, Vokietaitis has now recorded five double-doubles this season, including three in SEC play. His physical presence and efficiency around the rim have given Texas a reliable interior option.

Georgia holds a narrow 9-6 edge in the all-time series, but Texas dominated the previous meeting in Austin with an 87-67 victory. The Bulldogs will look to protect their home floor, while the Longhorns aim to extend their surge and strengthen their NCAA Tournament qualifications.

With postseason positioning on the line and milestones within reach, Saturday’s clash in Athens carries plenty of intrigue.
