Cam Coleman, the former Auburn star and one of the biggest names in the transfer portal, is already making noise with Arch Manning in Austin.
The 6-3, 204-pound wideout produced a ridiculous one-handed catch during Saturday’s practice that quickly took off online and offered a pretty clear reminder of why Steve Sarkisian wanted him so badly.
The play had everything.
Manning’s pass was tipped and redirected behind Coleman as he crossed the field. Instead of giving up on it, Coleman twisted in the air, reached back with his left hand and somehow secured the ball with just a few fingers.
That alone would’ve been enough to make the clip.
Coleman wasn’t finished.
He landed awkwardly with his body facing away from where he needed to go, spun through traffic and split defenders on his way to the end zone.
That’s not just a great catch. That’s the kind of rep that makes coaches start imagining what could happen on Saturdays.
Texas didn’t bring Coleman in to be a complementary piece.
He arrives in Austin after catching 93 passes for 1,306 yards and 13 touchdowns in two seasons at Auburn, averaging 14 yards per reception. He has size, body control, speed and the ability to make contested catches look routine.
Now he gets to work with Manning.
That combination could become one of the biggest storylines in college football this season.
Texas faces a brutal schedule, and Sarkisian’s offense is going to need players who can win even when everything breaks down. Coleman’s Saturday highlight was exactly that kind of play. The pass wasn’t perfect. The route didn’t unfold cleanly. The defense was there.
None of it mattered.
Coleman still turned chaos into six points.
