Want hype? No college football program does that better than the Texas Longhorns.
Want outspoken football takes? Few do that better than ol' pal Dez Bryant, the beloved retired Dallas Cowboys standout.
And here comes Dez - with his usual outspokenness - with a hot UT take.
Dez started the discussion on X by declaring that true freshman Jermaine Bishop is poised to be the Longhorns top wide receiver.
Bold? No doubt, especially given that the Longhorns won a great prize this offseason with the transfer in of elite receiver Cam Coleman from Auburn.
Still, wrote Dez, "I want to go on record and say Jermaine Bishop will be Texas Longhorns #1 WR. The eye test doesn't lie. He's oozing with confidence..I can tell by the way he carries himself. He already runs routes like a pro. Legit playmaker..
"I'm looking forward to watching him perform this year.''
There is plenty to buy into there. As a high-schooler, Bishop totaled more than 5,000 all purpose yards and 60 TDs. Oh, and he played defense and special teams at Willis High (in the Houston area), too, recording 15 interceptions and six return touchdowns.
At 6-0 and 165, he was a five-star recruit and thought by many to be the best athlete in Texas.
But ... what about the receiver Coleman?
Responded Dez to that notion, while meaning no respect to Coleman, or, as he noted, "other Longhorns legends'' ...
"I’m going to stretch it further.. Texas hasn’t had a playmaker like him since Vince Young!''
That's a lofty comparison ... and Dez knows it. Young is the legendary Heisman winner and Longhorns champion; Bishop is just a kid.
But Dez knows receivers and Dez knows talent. So, another Bishop prediction ...
"I can see him being ... dominant! I can see Bishop line up in the wildcat! The backfield. I wouldn’t be surprised if he played defense a bit… his type don’t come around that often. Eye test don’t lie!''
