Elite Texas ATH Signee is Named 2025 Mr. Texas Football cover image

Jermaine Bishop, a five-star ATH, dominates Texas high school football with historic stats, setting the stage for a powerhouse collegiate career with the Longhorns.

Every year since 2007, Dave Campbell's Texas Football has awarded one special talent with the title Mr. Texas Football.

Texas' top class of 2026 signee, five-star ATH receiver Jermaine Bishop, earned that honor on Thursday when he was announced as 2025 Mr. Texas Football.

Bishop beat out five finalists from different high school classifications and became the third Longhorn, behind Jonathan Gray in 2011 and Jonathon Brooks in 2020, to take home the award.

Bishop wasn't just one of the best players in the state of Texas this year - he'll go down as one of the Lone Star State's best-ever football athletes.

The 5-11, 155-pound Swiss Army knife put up video game numbers on both sides of the ball in 2025.

On offense, Bishop caught 120 passes for 1,940 yards and 20 touchdowns. He was also a key rushing contributor for his school, Willis, taking 45 carries for 424 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.

On defense, Bishop was almost just as impressive. While not being an every-down player, he recorded 86 tackles, four interceptions, four forced fumbles, 14 pass breakups, and nine tackles for loss.

If that wasn't enough, Bishop was also a key contributor on special teams, handling returns and even punting duties.

Over his four years combined, the five-star-rated and No. 16 nationally ranked prospect totaled over 6,700 all-purpose yards and 55 touchdowns, along with 198 tackles, 28 PBUs, 13 TFLs, and 17 INTs on defense.

High school football was simply too easy for Bishop, and Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian can only hope that some of that ease will transfer to the collegiate level.

What Now?

Bishop was an early enrollee for the Longhorns in this cycle, allowing him to participate in Spring workouts before other recruits arrive in Austin in the Summer.

Although he has experience and the talent to play on both sides of the ball, he projects as more of a WR for Texas.

Bishop possesses that freakish speed and acceleration that Sarkisian loves in his offense. His athleticism will allow him to not only separate from opposing defensive backs in the Southeastern Conference but also catch passes in the screen game, using his natural talent to gain yards after the catch.

As a freshman, Bishop will likely see the field very little in the Longhorns 2026 season. But make no mistake, he has the potential to be one of the sport's best wideouts in the future.
