The former Longhorn, who was thought to be a nice piece of the Dallas offense, has been waived.
Former Texas Longhorns running back Jaydon Blue has been one of the biggest surprises as the Dallas Cowboys trim their roster down to 53, with No. 23 being waived.
We have thought all offseason that the Cowboys had a plan for Blue to be the backup to Javonte Williams, and based on his training camp and then performances in the preseason games, that felt like it was all going according to plan.
But with Blue not suiting up for the final preseason game against the New Orleans Saints, some thought that meant Blue's spot on Dallas' roster was secured.
Well, it wasn't.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer stated that Blue, after a tough rookie season in 2025, came back with a different mentality and was more mature, but there was something clearly still missing from his kit bag.
We know of Blue's lightning speed, but last season that was the one thing hindering him, as the running back would often be all gas, no brakes in practice, in an attempt to burst through the line of scrimmage.
The Cowboys also wanted Blue's pad level to be lower.
So, he had a lot to work on this offseason, and it looked like he had made improvements in his game, to the point where maybe he was a viable option behind Williams.
However, Malik Davis quickly usurped him, but still, we thought he would be making the roster as Dallas' third back.
Now, he is just another name that has seen their NFL career take a detour on cut day.
It isn't known if Blue is going to clear waivers and if the Cowboys would want him back on the practice squad (I think they would), but Jaydon clearly didn't do enough this offseason to convince the Cowboys he should be part of their offense.
The "Thunder and Lightning" plan the Cowboys had for Williams and Blue is no more, and it does make us wonder if the franchise did have that plan, for Jaydon to be waived, what exactly the former Longhorn was missing.
Either that or Dallas simply prefers Malik Davis to Blue.
So Jaydon is now on the lookout for another NFL team after two seasons with the Cowboys, in what is still a rather shocking development.
