Coleman continued his good form, despite the uneven offensive performance from the Longhorns.
When receiver Cam Coleman transferred to the Texas Longhorns from Auburn, many were bullish on what he could become with Arch Manning and Steve Sarkisian, and in the 30-6 win over UTSA at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium, Coleman continued on his merry way.
Seen as a downfield threat who can dominate at the catch point and hit home runs, Coleman's physical attributes have already been on display three weeks into the college football season.
After two touchdowns and 70 yards against Texas State, to then 49 yards from four receptions, to then follow that up with 59 yards and two touchdowns against UTSA, Coleman is quickly becoming the No. 1 guy for Manning in the passing game.
He managed three catches for 40 yards in the first half, but had two touchdowns as the UTSA defense had no answer for him.
One was on the first Longhorns drive after the defense forced a turnover, and Arch hit Cam for a 24-yard TD.
And his second one, was a three-yard pass from Manning as Coleman was singled up out wide and he had trust in his receiver to go up and get it, and Cam did just that.
Plus, midway through the second quarter, Arch had Coleman wide open for a touchdown on a post route, but pressure got to Arch, and he overthrew Cam.
While Arch didn't have the best first half, going 11 of 20 for 116 yards and 2 TDs, he did find success looking Coleman's way when he had time.
To start the third quarter, Manning hit Coleman for a 19-yard gain on second-and-nine deep in their own territory, keeping the chains moving and giving the Longhorns space.
In what was a rather disjointed and poor offensive showing from the Longhorns, even Coleman couldn't catch everything thrown his way, but his two touchdowns and the big gain on second down showed that the chemistry being built between him and Arch is getting better.
Granted, this win won't live long in the memory as far as the overall game, but Coleman is showing why he was highly sought after this offseason.
Three games, 11 receptions, 178 yards and 4 TDs. That'll do.
