After a devastating knee injury sidelined his explosive potential, the former Longhorn returns to anchor Dallas' defense with the sideline-to-sideline speed and playmaking range the unit desperately needs.
A heat-seeking missile during his time with the University of Texas, DeMarvion Overshown was on a Pro Bowl trajectory with the Dallas Cowboys in 2024 when again, a nasty knee injury ended his season and took away a large chunk of 2025 as well.
As we approach training camp in Oxnard? One of the most intriguing players to watch in 2026 for the Cowboys is - once again - Overshown.
The injury-plagued Longhorn has had his troubles staying on the field, but early in his NFL career, he was electric.
A high-energy guy who got sacks and turnovers would make a huge difference to this Dallas defense.
Most players need a full year, or more, to recover from a knee injury like Overshown's, and he has already said this offseason that he's happy to be healthy and to be doing football work instead of rehabbing.
Taking reps with the green dot under new coordinator Christian Parker, Overshown is set to play a key role in 2026 and might just be able to rediscover his 2024 form.
And ESPN's Ben Solak has named Overshown as a potential breakout candidate for Dallas.
"This is less of a breakout and more of a re-breakout," Solak wrote. "Overshown lost his 2023 rookie year to a torn ACL in the preseason. When he returned to action in Week 1 of 2024, he was so ridiculously fast on an otherwise slow Cowboys defense that it was impossible not to notice him. Then came a torn ACL, MCL and PCL 13 weeks later, which ended his 2024 campaign early and followed him all the way into 2025.
"As he gets further away from the injury, he'll hopefully recover the top speed that allowed him to play sideline to sideline and trigger quickly on those behind-the-line opportunities."
If, and that's a big if, Overshown can avoid any setbacks, have a full offseason, and begin the year healthy, we know that he can be a difference-maker.
Last season wasn't good, and we might look back on the six games he did play (five starts) as the start of his resurgence. He got his feet wet back in the NFL, and while his play wasn't what we are used to, it was at least a step in the right direction.
I think Cowboys Nation would settle for D-Mo to have an uninterrupted season, put 17 games together for the first time in his career, and be serviceable doing it.
But a "breakout" for Overshown? Yes, it would be nice for him to return to being that "heat-seeking missile'' we saw a couple of years ago, but more than that, just having him on the field for a full season will be just as good.
And with the sort of talent Agent Zero has, if he plays a full season, Cowboys and Longhorns fans alike surely believe a "re-breakout" feels like a formality.
