Texas and Miami will meet Dec. 12 at Toyota Center, renewing a 2-2 series fueled by NCAA Tournament drama, regional pride and plenty of unfinished business.
Texas Longhorns basketball is bringing a little March Madness tension to Houston before the postseason even begins.
Texas will battle the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday, Dec. 12, at Toyota Center during the 2026-27 college basketball season. The neutral-site matchup gives the Longhorns another high-profile non-conference test while dropping two major brands into the home of the NBA’s Houston Rockets.
A start time and television assignment will be announced later.
This isn’t just another December showcase built to fill seats. Texas and Miami have history, and the most recent chapter still stings in Austin.
The Hurricanes eliminated the Longhorns from the 2023 NCAA Tournament with an 88-81 victory in the Elite Eight.
Texas was one win away from the Final Four before Miami slammed the door and ended the Longhorns’ deepest tournament run in more than a decade.
Now Texas gets another shot, this time in its own state.
The all-time series is tied 2-2, but the four previous meetings have produced drastically different results. Miami opened the rivalry with an 85-56 home victory in 1987.
Texas answered two years later by erupting for 123 points in a 19-point win in Austin.
The rivalry eventually moved onto college basketball’s biggest stage. Texas edged Miami 75-72 during the second round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament before the Hurricanes returned the favor 15 years later.
That gives the Houston matchup more bite than the average neutral-site game.
For Texas, beating Miami would strengthen its resume, energize the Longhorns’ Houston-area fan base and provide at least a measure of revenge for the 2023 tournament heartbreak.
For the Hurricanes, it’s an opportunity to prove that their Elite Eight victory wasn’t merely a one-night ambush.
The calendar may say December, but this one already feels personal.
