With McGuire this week dropping a trio of newsmaking bombshells.
The war of words started a few days ago with Sarkisian criticizing the Big 12 Conference as weak, claiming that the Longhorns could win it even if it only played its "2's and 3's'' from its roster.
That led to a direct challenge from McGuire and from Lubbock booster Cody Campbell, who announced they'd be willing to buy out their Week 1 match against Abilene Christian - and to buy out the Longhorns' opener against Texas State - in order to stage a Red Raiders/Longhorns showdown.
Coach Sark has yet to take the bait there ...
But McGuire is once again firing away, with a trio of trash-talk nuggets. To wit ...
1 - According to OnTexasFootball writer CJ Vogel, Sarkisian told the crowd at the San Antonio Quarterback Club that the Red Raiders are close to scheduling what the writer called a "major blue blood" for a home-and-home game.
There has been speculation that Notre Dame is the targeted team there.
But the arrangement will not be with Texas.
2 - And why not?
"It won't be Texas,'' McGuire said, per Vogel, "because they're scared.''
3 - McGuire was a guest on Josh Pate's College Football Show and stated that while he has great respect for the Longhorns, he is bothered by the fact that Sark didn't call out the Red Raiders by name in his Big 12 dig - and that when the College Football Playoffs roll around, he hopes "Round 1 is against the University of Texas.''
"He (Sarkisian) does have a great football team, and I am really anxious to see them this year," McGuire said. "And I know that, as a coach, when you have a really good team, you say some stuff and then your players have to go and back it up on the field.
"My deal was, if you're going to say that, then one, just come out and say who you're talking about, and two, let's play. ...
"We're working our tail off to get back to the playoffs again. I hope that Round 1 is against the University Of Texas.''
