Texas baseball landed Kent State transfer Sawyer Solitaria, adding a right-handed outfield bat with power, patience and speed to its portal haul.
Texas baseball is starting to make some real noise in the transfer portal, and Sawyer Solitaria gives the Longhorns exactly the kind of bat that can change a lineup fast.
Solitaria, a former Kent State outfielder, announced his commitment to Texas on Sunday after two standout seasons in the MAC.
He’ll arrive in Austin with two years of eligibility remaining and a body of work that says he’s not just a depth piece. He’s coming in with a chance to matter right away.
The right-handed hitter took a major jump as a sophomore in 2026, turning into one of the more productive power bats in the conference.
Solitaria hit .294 with a .408 on-base percentage, a .558 slugging percentage, 16 home runs, 13 doubles and 47 RBI.
He also showed he’s not a one-dimensional slugger, adding 11 stolen bases and 38 walks while earning Second-Team All-MAC honors.
That power surge didn’t come out of nowhere, either. Solitaria was already a problem as a freshman. In 2025, he hit .308 with eight home runs, eight doubles, 62 RBI, 52 runs scored and 10 steals.
That season earned him MAC Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-MAC recognition.
For Texas, this addition checks several boxes. Solitaria brings right-handed pop, outfield versatility and enough patience at the plate to avoid being exposed by better arms.
Yes, the strikeouts are part of the package after he punched out 57 times last season, but the walks, power and athleticism make the upside pretty obvious.
He becomes the Longhorns’ third portal pickup of the offseason, joining catcher Ian Armstrong and infielder Linkin Garcia. That’s a strong early signal that Texas isn’t waiting around to patch holes.
The Longhorns needed more thump. Solitaria brings it with some edge.
