Texas baseball is set to host Missouri in Austin as the Longhorns push for a top-eight NCAA Tournament seed and home-field advantage.
Texas baseball is already safely in the NCAA Tournament picture, but the Longhorns still have plenty to play for entering the final weekend of the 2026 regular season.
No. 5 Texas will host Missouri for a three-game SEC series at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin, giving coach Jim Schlossnagle’s team one last regular-season chance to strengthen its national seed resume before postseason play begins.
The SEC Tournament follows next week, and the NCAA Tournament bracket will be revealed shortly after that.
The Longhorns slipped one spot in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll after dropping a road series at unranked Tennessee.
Texas had been sitting at No. 4 for more than a month, but the loss pushed UT down to No. 5. Even with that setback, the Longhorns remain in a strong position to host an NCAA regional in Austin.
The bigger question is whether Texas can lock up a top-eight national seed. That distinction matters because it would put the Longhorns in position to host both a regional and, if they advance, a super regional.
In college baseball, that home-field edge can be massive.
USA TODAY Sports currently projects Texas as the No. 5 overall national seed. In that scenario, the Austin Regional would include Virginia, Michigan and Wright State, giving the Longhorns a challenging but manageable opening path.
There’s still work to do, of course. A strong series against Missouri would help Texas steady itself after the Tennessee stumble and keep the Longhorns firmly in the top-eight conversation.
A deep run in the SEC Tournament could only strengthen that case.
For Texas, the mission is clear ... finish strong, protect Austin as a postseason destination and give itself the best possible road to Omaha.
