Junior guard Mikey Lewis will miss an extended period of time, but the injury is not thought to be season-ending.

The Texas Longhorns will be without one of their five prominent transfers for an extended period ahead of Sean Miller's second season in Austin.

Saint Mary's combo guard and junior transfer Mikey Lewis suffered a fracture in his foot, the school announced Wednesday morning. He is set to undergo surgery, though the injury is not currently thought to be season-ending.

Lewis joins David Punch, Amari Evans, Isaiah Johnson and Elyjah Freeman transferring into the Longhorns' program, which also adds highly-rated freshmen Bo Ogden, Marcus Spears Jr. and Austin Goosby this cycle.

Texas had the No. 5 ranking in 2026 high school recruiting, and

Last season, Lewis, a 6-3 195-pounder, was a First Team All-West Coast Conference honoree after averaging 13.9 points per game, starting in all 33 games for the Gaels.

Lewis' strongest offensive attribute is his perimeter shot-making. Through two seasons at SMC, the Oakland, Calif., native shot better than 37 percent from 3-point range on 5.0 career attempts per game.

As a freshman, Lewis made his presence felt immediately. He took home WCC Sixth Man of the Year honors and made the All-Freshman team for a regular-season conference championship team.

Saint Mary's hoisted another regular-season title last season, as well, and appeared in the NCAA tournament's round of 64 before losing to 10-seed Texas A&M on March 19.

Although Lewis' timeline to return to fall practices and the start of the regular season is uncertain, the Longhorns will remain one of the top contenders for an SEC championship and a deep run in March.

College basketball analyst Chris Dortch placed Texas at No. 7 in his Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook top-25 rankings going into the 2026-27 season.

A year ago, Miller couldn't have asked for a much better season to begin his tenure as the Longhorns' new head coach.

Texas went 21-15 last season and played some of its best basketball in March Madness. Miller helped his squad go from a First Four game to the Sweet 16 before falling to Purdue 79-77.

Lithuanian center Matas Vokietaitis returns from last year's team as a key leadership piece on an otherwise new-look roster ... one that will be without one of its top newcomers for the time being.

"Our aspirations, our goals, what we want to be about is trying to get to the Final Four and compete for a national championship," Miller said as school got back in session. "So I don’t think that any of us want to run from that. We want to embrace it, work towards it."
