Texas football is pushing hard for 5-star offensive lineman Ismael Camara, a rare 6-foot-6, 345-pound force who could anchor the Longhorns’ future.
Texas football recruiting might not be done flexing just yet.
After a blistering June on the trail, the Longhorns are now in position to make a serious move for five-star offensive lineman Ismael Camara, one of the most physically outrageous prospects in the country.
Camara isn’t just another big body in the trenches. He’s 6-6, 345 pounds, and somehow moves like someone built 50 pounds lighter.
That’s why the nickname “The Freak” fits so well. When an offensive lineman that massive is reportedly topping 20 miles per hour and jumping onto a 44-inch box, recruiting staffs don’t casually monitor him. They build plans around him.
Texas has done exactly that.
The Longhorns recently got Camara on campus for an official visit, and the buzz coming out of that trip has been hard to ignore.
His timeline once looked like it could stretch closer to signing day, especially because his recruitment has been anything but normal.
Camara is on pace to finish high school in just two and a half years, which has made scheduling visits and building a traditional recruiting calendar more complicated.
But Texas may have changed the math.
Steve Sarkisian’s staff has made Camara a priority target, and for good reason. His positional flexibility gives him a rare ceiling.
He has the size and length to project at tackle, but he’s powerful enough to cave in defensive fronts from the guard spot.
For Texas, this would be more than a splash commitment. Camara has the look of a player who could walk into Austin and compete immediately.
Prospects with his size, movement skills and nastiness don’t need three years to figure out how to belong. They usually force their way onto the field.
The Kelvin Banks comparison is ambitious, but it’s not crazy. Banks became a foundational piece for Texas early in his career, and Camara has that same type of program-shifting profile if he develops the right way.
Of course, landing a commitment would only start the fight. A player this talented won’t stop hearing from national powers just because he gives a verbal pledge.
Texas would have to keep recruiting him until signing day and probably beyond.
Still, the Longhorns have momentum, a clear need and a massive opportunity. If Camara jumps in, Texas won’t just be adding an offensive lineman.
It’ll be adding a tone-setter.
