Texas football is already swinging hard in the 2028 recruiting class, and Steve Sarkisian’s staff just put another intriguing in-state playmaker on the board.
Major Armstrong, a Texas prospect who can line up at cornerback or wide receiver, has picked up an offer from the Longhorns as his recruitment starts to heat up.
For a program trying to keep elite Texas talent from drifting elsewhere, this is exactly the kind of early move that matters.
Armstrong isn’t some one-position projection. He’s the type of athlete who gives recruiters options.
On offense, he brings the kind of explosive upside coaches love at wide receiver.
On defense, he has the tools to develop into a disruptive cornerback. That versatility is a big reason more than 10 programs have already shown interest.
Texas won’t be alone in this fight, either. Baylor, Houston, UTEP, UNLV, UCF, Syracuse, ECU, Lamar and others are already involved, and that list is almost certainly going to grow as Armstrong gets more exposure.
For the Longhorns, the pitch is obvious: come to Austin, develop in a national-title environment and compete against SEC talent every day.
Sarkisian has built Texas into a destination again, and that matters in early-cycle recruiting.
Armstrong also joins a growing 2028 board that already includes names like Neimann Lawrence, Micah Rhodes, Braylon Clark, Braxton Rein, Jamarios Canton, Kameron McGee and Keaton Fields.
Texas is clearly trying to identify future difference-makers before the national race gets completely out of control.
The next key step is getting Armstrong to the Forty Acres. An offer gets attention. A visit builds momentum.
If Texas can get him on campus and keep pushing the relationship early, Armstrong could become one of the more interesting in-state names to track in the Longhorns’ 2028 class.
