Texas is one of three finalists for five-star receiver Brysen Wright, the nation's top-ranked 2028 prospect by ESPN, ahead of Thursday's commitment decision.

Texas football could be 48 hours away from landing one of the biggest recruiting prizes in the country.

Five-star wide receiver Brysen Wright, the electrifying Jacksonville prospect considered among the nation's elite players in the 2028 recruiting class, will announce his college commitment on Thursday.

The Texas Longhorns are one of three finalists, joining Florida and Miami in a recruiting battle that could deliver a major early victory for coach Steve Sarkisian.

And this isn't just another highly rated high school prospect.

Wright, a 6-4, 215-pound standout at Mandarin High School, has already developed a national following thanks to spectacular catches, remarkable athleticism and an unusual combination of size and speed.

ESPN ranks Wright as the nation's No. 1 overall prospect in the 2028 class, while the Rivals Industry Ranking places him third nationally and first among wide receivers.

His reputation extends well beyond traditional high school football.

Wright became an internet sensation through highlight videos featuring acrobatic receptions during flag football competition.

His performances earned him the 2025 NFL FLAG Player of the Year award, which he received during Super Bowl week in February.

But the viral catches aren't his only selling point.

During the 2025 high school season, Wright caught 46 passes for 983 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also made 63 tackles, intercepted five passes and scored five touchdowns on interception and punt returns.

Those numbers explain why college coaches have been pursuing him since he was barely a teenager.

Wright has helped Mandarin build a 9-1 record this fall, putting the Mustangs in position for a strong postseason run when Florida's Class 5A playoffs begin November 13.

For Texas, landing Wright would represent considerably more than adding another talented receiver.

Sarkisian has built his offensive reputation around developing explosive passing attacks, and Wright possesses the physical tools to become a centerpiece of a future Longhorns offense.

Texas also has recruiting history at Mandarin.

The Longhorns signed highly regarded receiver Jaime Ffrench Jr. from the Jacksonville program in the 2025 class.

Ffrench played four games at Texas before transferring to Michigan following his freshman season.

That connection gives Sarkisian's staff some familiarity with the school's football program, although it doesn't guarantee an advantage in Wright's recruitment.

Miami and Florida have pursued Wright aggressively, and both offer the opportunity to remain closer to home.

For now, Wright hasn't publicly identified a favorite among his three finalists.

That makes Thursday's announcement particularly intriguing.

The Longhorns are fighting to finish the 2026 season on a high note, but their coaching staff is also looking several years into the future.

Adding Wright would send a strong message that Texas remains capable of attracting elite national talent.

And with a prospect this talented, Thursday's decision could have implications well beyond the 2028 recruiting rankings.
