Texas Longhorns recruiting gets a heavyweight spotlight this weekend as five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster returns to Austin for an official visit.
Brewster is already committed to Texas Tech, but his recruitment clearly isn’t finished, and that gives Steve Sarkisian another crack at one of the biggest prizes in the 2027 class.
Brewster isn’t just another high-profile name on the board.
The Cedar High standout is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1 defensive lineman in the country, the No. 6 overall player nationally and the No. 2 prospect in Texas.
That’s the kind of resume that turns a regular recruiting weekend into a full-blown pressure test.
Texas Tech currently owns the commitment, but Texas is trying to make this one uncomfortable for the Red Raiders.
Brewster has already drawn offers from national powers including Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame and Florida, so the Longhorns aren’t the only program trying to shake this loose.
He’s also been active on the visit trail. Brewster has made stops at LSU and Indiana, taken multiple unofficial visits to Florida and is scheduled to return to Texas Tech on June 19 after his Texas visit.
For the Longhorns, the pitch is obvious: stay home, play in Austin and become a centerpiece in Sarkisian’s defensive front.
Texas already has a strong 2027 group building, led by five-star athlete Jermaine Bishop and several blue-chip prospects, including Dia Bell, Tyler Atkinson, Kosi Okpala, Richard Wesley, Derek Cooper and Samara Matthews.
Adding Brewster would take that class from impressive to nasty.
Flipping him won’t be easy. Texas Tech got in early and still has the pledge. But when a committed five-star keeps showing up on campus, the door isn’t closed.
Texas now gets its shot to kick it open.
