Texas added four-star edge Jabarrius Garror, ESPN’s No. 4 outside linebacker in 2027, giving Steve Sarkisian another defensive win.
Texas football is starting to heat up in the 2027 recruiting cycle, and Steve Sarkisian just ripped another blue-chip defender out of SEC country.
Four-star edge Jabarrius Garror committed to the Longhorns on Friday, giving Texas its second top defensive pledge in less than 24 hours.
The 6-2, 215-pound standout from Mobile, Alabama, is ranked No. 49 overall in the SC Next 300 and is listed by ESPN as the No. 4 outside linebacker in the 2027 class.
That’s a major swing.
Garror picked Texas over Auburn, Georgia and Florida State after taking an official visit to Austin from June 5-7.
He had previously been committed to Alabama, where he sat as the Crimson Tide’s top-ranked 2027 pledge before backing off that decision in March.
Now he’s headed to the Forty Acres.
The timing is brutal for the rest of the SEC. Texas landed Garror less than a day after securing four-star defensive tackle Kasi Currie, the No. 52 overall player and ESPN’s No. 3 defensive tackle in the cycle.
Together, Garror and Currie give the Longhorns two top-60 defensive prospects to build around.
Garror isn’t just a rankings win, either. He brings real production. As a junior at Vigor High School, he racked up 106 tackles and 21 sacks, showing the kind of disruption Texas wants coming off the edge.
He also checks in as the No. 1 recruit in Alabama, which makes the move even louder.
Texas’ 2027 class now sits at 14 commitments, with Garror joining a defensive group that already includes four-star defensive end Derwin Fields and in-state additions Cameron Hall, Karnell James and Cade Haug.
The Longhorns entered Friday ranked No. 21 nationally and seventh among SEC programs in ESPN’s latest class rankings, but that number may not hold for long.
The Longhorns are hosting more priority targets, including defensive tackle Mitchell Turner, cornerback Montre Jackson and offensive tackle Brian Swanson.
They’re also pushing for elite defensive names like John Meredith III and Marcus Fakatou while staying active with potential flip targets. That’s the bigger picture.
Texas isn’t just adding bodies. It’s building a defensive class with teeth.
And Garror’s commitment might be the moment the Longhorns’ 2027 push starts to get nasty.
