Texas added 2027 offensive tackle Lucas Rhoa, giving Kyle Flood another versatile trench piece as the Longhorns’ class climbs.
Texas Longhorns recruiting just added another big body, and this one fits exactly what Kyle Flood loves to collect ... size, versatility and developmental upside.
Lucas Rhoa, a three-star offensive tackle from Orange Lutheran in California, committed to Texas on Thursday, giving the Longhorns another important piece in their 2027 recruiting class.
Rhoa isn’t the flashiest name on the board, but this is the kind of offensive line pickup that can age really well. At 6-5 and 305 pounds, he already looks the part of a Power Four lineman.
The question isn’t whether he has the frame. It’s where Texas eventually decides to unleash him.
That’s what makes this commitment interesting.
Rhoa has been listed as an offensive tackle, and Texas clearly sees enough length, movement ability and toughness to give him a shot outside.
But his build and skill set could also translate inside at guard. There’s even enough mobility there to imagine him cross-training at center down the road. For Flood, that kind of flexibility is gold.
Texas had to work for this one, too. Rhoa took official visits to Oregon, Penn State and UCLA before making his way to Austin.
During the Texas visit, Flood connected him with former Longhorns offensive lineman Kelvin Banks, a pretty obvious signal that the staff wasn’t casually kicking the tires. Texas wanted Rhoa, and it closed.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Rhoa ranks as the No. 612 overall player in the country and the No. 54 offensive tackle in the 2027 cycle.
That ranking won’t melt the internet, but offensive line recruiting isn’t always about today’s star count. It’s about projection, development and fit.
And Rhoa fits.
Scouts view him as a broad-framed blocker with useful positional range. He’s at his best moving forward in the run game, where he can generate push and show some sudden power on contact.
The next step will be improving his lower-body flexibility, pass-protection consistency and ability to anchor against stronger rushers.
In other words, he’s not a finished product. That’s fine. Most high school linemen aren’t.
Rhoa becomes the fourth offensive line commit in Texas’ 2027 class, joining four-star tackle Brian Swanson, three-star interior lineman Kenyon Hemphill-Woods and three-star interior lineman Jackson Cook.
The Longhorns are also still pushing for five-star tackle Ismael Camara.
Texas is now back up to 18 commitments and remains No. 6 nationally in the 2027 team rankings.
The Longhorns aren’t just adding names. They’re stacking trenches.
