Texas added 2027 speedster Kyron Brown, a fast-rising Amarillo receiver who brings 4.43 speed and another deep threat to Steve Sarkisian’s class today.
Texas football recruiting just grabbed another in-state weapon, and this one can flat-out run.
Kyron Brown, a 2027 wide receiver from Amarillo Palo Duro, has committed to the Longhorns after a fast-moving recruitment that went from camp invite to offer to official visit to pledge in a matter of weeks.
That’s how quickly Texas flipped the switch.
Brown, a Rivals Industry Ranking three-star prospect, chose Texas over Northwestern and Kansas State.
He may not carry the loudest star rating in the class, but the Longhorns clearly saw something they liked when he worked out in Austin earlier this month.
Once Steve Sarkisian’s staff offered on June 3, things moved fast.
The 6-0 playmaker followed with an official visit from June 12-14, and the trip clearly hit home. Brown left Austin with Texas surging, then wasted little time shutting down his recruitment.
What makes Brown intriguing is the speed. He’s been clocked at 4.43 seconds in the 40-yard dash, and that burst shows up beyond the football field.
Brown also competes in track, running the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles. He qualified for state in the 110 hurdles and finished fifth in 2026 with a 14.32 time, though it was not wind-legal.
On the field, Brown produced more than 600 receiving yards on 37 catches last season at Palo Duro, adding seven touchdowns.
That’s a strong profile for a receiver who still has plenty of time to develop before arriving in Austin.
Brown joins a Texas 2027 wide receiver group that already includes five-star Easton Royal and three-star Briceson Thrower.
That gives the Longhorns a nice blend of upside, speed and future perimeter talent.
Nationally, Brown is ranked No. 796 overall, No. 109 at wide receiver and No. 97 in Texas by the Rivals Industry Ranking.
This isn’t the splashiest commitment Texas will land, but it’s the kind of take that can age really well. Speed plays, and Brown has plenty of it.
