It has been a fruitful offseason for the Longhorns, but they've missed out on a star receiver prospect.
The Texas Longhorns are shaping up to be one of the teams to beat in college football this upcoming season, as Arch Manning looks to take this team to the promised land.
After a good season last year, the Longhorns have been heavily recruiting, and with an eye on the 2027 class, they had their sights set on potential five-star receiver Monshun Sales.
With the Longhorns reportedly very interested in getting Sales to be part of the program, they also had to fight off other college teams as well.
And it appears that Texas didn't have the pulling power it thought it had when it comes to the sales pitch for Monshun.
Per Hayes Fawcett, Monshun has decided to commit to Indiana, rebuffing the advances of Texas, Alabama, LSU, and Ohio State.
It will surely be a blow to the Longhorns as they would have loved to have Monshun as part of the program in 2027, given that Cam Coleman, Texas' star receiver, is likely set for the NFL after this upcoming college season.
A player with Sales's skill set and physical build would have been ideal for the Longhorns.
A speed merchant who can get downfield in a hurry, while also boasting the physical tools at 6'5" and over 200 lbs, he is a mismatch nightmare on every down.
But that isn't the only tool in his bag.
Sales is also, per college experts, a dominant blocker in the run game, and given his size, you'd expect that.
With Texas' 2027 recruiting class already including names such as Ismael Camara, John Meredit III, and Easton Royal, the outside hope is that it could snag Sales as well.
But now that he's committed to Indiana, the Longhorns are going to have to look elsewhere for another star receiver to be part of their 2027 recruiting class.
Granted, the Longhorns will still have plenty of irons in the fire for next year, but missing out on Sales is a blow, given what he is projected to be, but Texas will pivot and look at other targets.
Although, in an ideal world, they'd wish Sales chose them.
