Texas football has entered the race for four-star 2028 safety Antwaun Adams, one of the nation’s most versatile and heavily recruited prospects.
Texas football is already pushing deeper into the 2028 recruiting class, and Steve Sarkisian’s staff has added another major national prospect to its board.
Four-star safety Antwaun “Cornbread” Adams, a standout at Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, announced that he has received an offer from the Longhorns.
“#AGTG blessed to receive an offer from Texas Longhorns! 🤘🏾,” Adams wrote on social media.
Texas joins a crowded recruitment for one of the more intriguing two-way athletes in the 2028 cycle.
Adams already holds offers from programs including Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, Notre Dame, LSU, Ole Miss, Florida State, Florida, Indiana and Texas A&M, among others.
It’s easy to understand the attention.
Adams played his sophomore season at South Pike High School in Magnolia, Mississippi, where he made an impact on both sides of the football.
Defensively, he recorded 25 solo tackles, two tackles for loss, three interceptions and a pass breakup, returning two of those interceptions for touchdowns.
Then there’s what he did with the ball in his hands.
Adams caught 25 passes for 466 yards and six touchdowns, production that helped showcase the athleticism that makes him more than a traditional safety prospect.
He transferred to powerhouse Baylor School in Chattanooga before his junior season, putting him on an even bigger stage against elite competition.
The 6-2, 180-pound Adams currently sits at No. 96 overall and No. 8 among safeties in 247Sports’ rankings, while the Rivals Industry Ranking has him just outside the national top 100 at No. 102.
Texas is starting early with Adams, which matters considering how crowded his recruitment has already become.
The Longhorns currently have one commitment in their 2028 class: four-star quarterback Neimann Lawrence, who committed in June after choosing Texas over programs including Miami and Notre Dame.
Lawrence gave Sarkisian his quarterback centerpiece.
Now Texas is trying to surround that early commitment with elite talent across the roster, and Adams would certainly fit that description.
For a prospect who can create touchdowns on offense and defense, expect the competition for Adams to get much louder before his recruitment is finished.
