Texas football has entered the race for 2027 cornerback Raheem Floyd, an explosive East St. Louis defensive back with national rankings and major upside.

Texas football recruiting is heating up again, and the latest name to know is 2027 cornerback Raheem Floyd. Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns have officially extended an offer to the East St. Louis standout, adding another high-upside defensive back to their growing recruiting board.

For a program focused on stacking speed, length, and playmaking talent in the secondary, Floyd fits the profile.

The Texas offer matters because Floyd is already attracting serious national attention.

The Illinois prospect has picked up offers from Michigan, Florida State, Ole Miss, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Indiana, Arizona State, Cincinnati, and Vanderbilt, and that list may only get longer.

As more coaches dig into his film, it’s easy to see why his recruitment is gaining momentum.

Raheem Floyd has built his reputation on production and splash plays. During his 2024 sophomore season, he piled up 76 total tackles and five interceptions, numbers that jump off the page for any defensive back.

He didn’t just clean up plays in the open field. He created turnovers, disrupted passing lanes, and consistently made quarterbacks pay for mistakes.

That kind of impact has pushed Floyd up the rankings. According to 247Sports, he’s rated as the No. 21 cornerback in the 2027 class, the No. 7 player in Illinois, and the No. 151 overall prospect nationally.

Those rankings underline what Texas clearly sees: a defensive back with the tools to become a major piece in a Power Four secondary.

If the Longhorns can eventually land Floyd, he’d join a 2027 recruiting class that already has solid momentum. Texas currently holds commitments from four-stars Easton Royal and Cameron Hall, along with three-stars JT Geraci, Cade Haug, Karnell James, and Ty Knutson.

There’s still a long way to go in Floyd’s recruitment, but Texas has made its move. Now the Longhorns will try to turn early interest into a real push toward Austin.
