Texas enters the season No. 6 in the 2027 recruiting rankings, but LSU’s push for five-star Easton Royal gives Steve Sarkisian a battle to watch.
Texas football has already done most of its heavy lifting in the 2027 recruiting class, and the results are showing up in the rankings.
The Longhorns enter the season No. 6 nationally in the Rivals/On3 team rankings, giving Steve Sarkisian another top-tier class as recruiting activity begins to slow down ahead of the fall.
Texas made its biggest move in June.
The Longhorns added 11 commitments during the month, including several elite prospects who helped push the class into the national top 10.
Among the biggest wins were four-star offensive tackle Brian Swanson, defensive lineman Kasi Currie and defensive back Montre Jackson.
Texas also landed one of the most intriguing developments of the cycle when John Meredith III, ranked as the No. 2 player in the 2027 class, reclassified and joined the program early.
That wasn’t just a recruiting win.
Meredith is already expected to compete for playing time this season, giving Texas immediate value from a player who originally wasn’t supposed to arrive until next year.
The Longhorns kept adding after June.
Four-star running back Landen Williams-Callis, ranked as the No. 3 running back nationally, committed after becoming the final top-100 prospect in the class to come off the board. His addition helped Texas climb two spots to No. 6.
Then came Ismael Camara.
The five-star interior offensive lineman committed on July 4, giving Texas another blue-chip piece up front and adding even more star power to the class.
So the foundation is strong.
The biggest question now is whether Texas can keep everybody.
Five-star prospect Easton Royal has become the name to watch. The New Orleans native remains committed to Texas, but LSU is reportedly pushing hard to flip him before signing day.
That battle could become one of the most important recruiting storylines of the fall.
Texas doesn’t need a massive wave of commitments to stay near the top of the rankings. The Longhorns already have the numbers and the high-end talent.

Now the challenge shifts from building the class to protecting it.
And with LSU circling Royal, Sarkisian and his staff may have one major recruiting fight left before December.
