The Longhorns were aggressive in player acquisition this offseason, but it came at a price.
Texas has been very active in recruiting to get the right players into the program for Steve Sarkisian.
We know of Cam Coleman, Raleek Brown, and Hollywood Smothers as the big gets this offseason, but also, for those studs to come in, some other players had to go.
Because in truth, you can't fit them all on one team.
That meant players like CJ Baxter, DeAndre Moore, and others had to be moved on to make space for the stars the Longhorns were going after.
Granted, that seems more like an NFL problem than a college football problem, but it was one that Sarkisian had to wrestle with this offseason.
And during an appearance on The Paul Finebaum Show, Sarkisian detailed exactly what transpired over the offseason.
“To make the moves we make, to bring in a Cam Coleman, to bring in a Hollywood Smothers, to bring in a Raleek Brown, to bring in a Mike Masunas at tight end; we had to let DeAndre Moore go," he said via On3.com. "We had to let Parker Livingstone go. We had to let Tre Wisner go. We had to let CJ Baxter go.
"...we had to let some pretty good players leave to create the cap space to bring those guys in. I think strategically, there were some tough decisions to make. But, we made them. I think we all can agree that we’re probably better around Arch today than we were a year ago at this time.”
Now, the Longhorns are seen as one of the best teams in college football, and that means the pressure has gone up a level on Sarkisian and also his young quarterback, Arch Manning.
How much pressure?
Well, Sarkisian also stated that the 10-3 record from last season wasn't good enough, so that tells you all you need to know.
Now, with some star recruits in the door, but also having to say goodbye to others, the Longhorns appear ready for a full-on assault in 2026.
But Sarkisian's comments highlight the reality that even a top program like Texas faces.
They still can't get everyone.
