The time has finally come. The end of the college softball season is near as two Texas powerhouses prepare to face off once again in the championship of the Women’s College World Series.
With a national title on the line, Texas and Texas Tech are set for a heated rematch that might go down as one of the most anticipated and must-watch showdowns of college softball.
The 2026 season was loaded with championship-caliber teams, making the road to Oklahoma City as competitive as ever.
Programs such as Tennessee, Nebraska, Alabama, Oklahoma, and UCLA all showed flashes of being capable of making a deep postseason run and competing for a national title.
However, throughout the season, two teams consistently separated themselves from the pack.
The Texas Longhorns and Texas Tech Red Raiders spent most of the year ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the national polls, frequently trading places at the top.
Now, after months of living up to the hype, the two Texas rivals find themselves exactly where many expected them to be: facing off with a national championship on the line.
While both squads were dominant throughout the season, their paths to the championship series were far from perfect.
The Longhorns faced adversity early in the postseason, dropping Game 1 of their Super Regional against Arizona State. However, Texas responded by winning the next two games to secure its spot in the Women’s College World Series.

The Red Raiders dropped Game 2 of their Super Regional against Florida and were forced into a decisive Game 3. The Red Raiders responded dominantly, run-ruling the Gators to advance to the World Series Tournament.
Texas Tech opened the World Series Tournament with a victory over Mississippi State before being humbled by Tennessee in the second round.
Facing elimination, Texas Tech battled past UCLA and then defeated Alabama twice to earn a long-awaited rematch with Texas in the championship series.

The Red Raiders will be extremely hungry for revenge after falling short just a year ago.
