The Longhorns had a stirring win over Ohio State, but will there be a letdown this week?
The Texas Longhorns are perhaps still coming down from that incredible come-from-behind win over Ohio State, but the page has to be turned to UTSA in Week 3.
The Roadrunners are 2-0, having beaten UTRGV and then Texas State, while the Longhorns are also 2-0, with that win over the Buckeyes one that could push Steve Sarkisian's team to new heights in 2026.
In the cozy confines of Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium, the Longhorns will be good value to maintain their winning run, with Arch Manning and Co. having all the weapons needed to make this a rather lopsided game.
Running back Hollywood Smothers was a star last time out, rushing for 74 yards and 2 TDs, while Emmett Mosley V (5 rec, 65 yards) and Cam Coleman (4 rec, 49 yards) were the main destroyers in the passing game.
After so many self-inflicted wounds against the Buckeyes, including fumbles and interceptions, Texas needs to fine-tune its game, and this is perhaps the ideal "get right" game for Sarkisian's team.
But the Roadrunners will fancy their chances at a huge road upset, even though their defense lacks much game-changing talent, so the Longhorns and their long list of weapons could feast.
Of course, we know the game isn't played on paper, and I wonder how much of an emotional toll last week could have taken on Texas.
The game was built up to within an inch of its life, and then the Longhorns needed to produce a comeback for the ages; it would be draining.
Plus, after getting themselves up mentally for a game like Ohio State, they could face UTSA and risk getting caught napping early.
