Despite holding firm at No. 4, Texas proved March-ready with a dominant win.

Texas women’s basketball delivered a loud statement over the weekend, rolling past rival LSU 77-64, yet the Lady Longhorns found themselves standing still in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Texas remained No. 4 nationally, unchanged despite one of its most complete performances of the season.

While the ranking didn’t budge, the bigger picture remains favorable.

At 23-2, Texas is still tracking toward a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, a reflection of both resume and consistency. The teams above them haven’t blinked either. UConn stays unbeaten and firmly planted at No. 1, with UCLA and South Carolina continuing to occupy the next two spots.

The win over LSU showcased why Texas is built for March.

The Longhorns controlled the tempo, defended at a high level, and got balanced scoring across the lineup. Star forward Madison Booker again set the tone, commanding defensive attention and creating space for others.

Texas used that balance to pull away late, turning a competitive matchup into a convincing victory.

Vanderbilt surged to No. 5 after knocking off ranked Kentucky and Oklahoma, while LSU slipped just one spot to No. 6. In total, nine SEC programs now sit inside the Top 25, reinforcing the grind Texas faces down the stretch.

That grind ramps up immediately. The Longhorns head to Nashville on Thursday to face red-hot Vanderbilt before returning home for a weekend showdown with No. 22 Tennessee.

With only five regular-season games remaining, every result carries seeding implications.

Texas may be “stuck” at No. 4 in the poll, but the path in front of the Lady Longhorns is clear. Win the big games ahead, and the rewards in March will follow.
