Trevor Goosby earned Outland Trophy National Player of the Week honors after anchoring Texas’ offensive line in a 24-23 comeback win over Ohio State.
Texas offensive tackle Trevor Goosby is adding another major honor after helping the Longhorns complete one of the most dramatic comebacks of the college football season.
Goosby was named the Outland Trophy National Player of the Week on Tuesday after his performance in Texas’ 24-23 win over No. 1 Ohio State.
It’s the first weekly national Outland honor of his career and comes one day after he was also named Co-SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week.
The recognition was well earned.
Goosby was Texas’ highest-graded offensive lineman against Ohio State and allowed no sacks and only one pressure on 46 pass-blocking snaps.
That protection became especially important late, when quarterback Arch Manningengineered three straight touchdown drives to erase a 23-3 deficit.
Texas closed the game with touchdown drives of 15, 13 and 12 plays, each covering at least 72 yards.
The Longhorns also became the only team in the past 15 years to finish a victory with three consecutive touchdown drives of 12 or more plays.
Goosby’s work was especially noticeable in the fourth quarter.
Texas generated 150 yards of offense in the final period, including 83 through the air and 67 on the ground, while holding Ohio State to 52 yards.
Including the final possession of the third quarter, the Longhorns produced 236 total yards over the final 21 minutes.
That offensive surge allowed Manning and the Texas offense to stay on the field and slowly wear down one of the nation’s strongest defenses.
Goosby also helped create room for running back Hollywood Smothers, who finished with 74 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. Raleek Brown added 54 rushing yards on 10 attempts.
The national honor also strengthens Goosby’s early case for the full Outland Trophy, awarded annually to the nation’s top interior lineman.
He entered the season on the preseason watch list after earning first-team All-SEC recognition in 2025.
Texas has recent history with the award as well. Kelvin Banks Jr. won the Outland Trophy in 2024, while T’Vondre Sweat won it in 2023.
Goosby now has his own opportunity to continue that run.
The Outland Trophy semifinalists will be announced Nov. 18, followed by three finalists on Nov. 24. The winner will be revealed Dec. 11 during the College Football Awards.
For Goosby, the early-season resume already includes one massive comeback, an SEC honor and now a national award.
